Peanuts r probably closer 2 the bean family, since they grow out of the ground instead of on trees.

Bonbon is correct peanuts are legumes, so are peas, alfalfa, soy, beans, clover, lentils, etc.

If you've ever taken apart a pea and a peanut, it's pretty obvious which one peanuts are. Nuts just don't come apart in the same way.
