Because it was put out against The Expendables and Eat Pray Love. Plus there was like five articles on major websites saying the movie was "too young" for anyone over 30 to like it.

It flopped but it is on top of amazons most pre ordered list. beside the flop, I am a huge fan of Scott Pilgrim. The Comics and The Movie

Question Duck, stealing all the girls.

Because generating buzz and enthusiasm among the nerd/geek crowd is no guarantee they'll actually pay for it.

This little stunt is sure to get one (or both) of these guys laid

SO MANY CUTE PUPPETS.
This girl seems to think so as well, judging by her reaction in panel 2.

Why did it flop?

It was sooooo goooood! I don't understand.

KyledKat, Apr 16, 2011, 07 pm

My guess is poor advertising. They werent sure if they wanted to market it as a romcom or an action movie for a younger audience.

Snager, Apr 16, 2011, 07 pm

i heard it flopped because it perfectly resonates with the age group who prefers to pirate everything.

It flopped because it was marketed toward a demographic which wouldn't have much money to spend on movies: geeks and hipsters in their late teens to early 20's. Seriously, do you know how much movies cost? When you don't have a job, 8-10 dollars is a big deal, as it is even if you do have a job, just more so.

Also, I'd say that the target audience is a teeny little slice of people who grew up on 8/16 bit systems, and anyone outside of that demgraphic (which is the vast majority) was either too young or too old to "get" the movie.

I don't know. My dad (40s) and I (19) both liked it and so did a lot of my college classmates. I didn't see it in the theater because I was having health problems, but we rented it through Netflix.

Also, just getting the movie's references is no guarantee you'll like it.

lead character

The movie had a decent plot, everyone else in the movie was good, but Cera was a complete miscast. Main character should not been a needy, whiny, feminine person but rather more of a bungling late bloomer.

Wait, it flopped? Here in Toronto it did AMAZING. ...Then again, it takes place in Toronto. hrrrrm.

Much like Hugo(a Martin Scorsese kid flick), it was a marketing nightmare.

It's a film based on comics book, about a nerd who battles in pseudo-videgames world to get the girl that may or may not happen in his own mind.

Advertisers and marketers hate stuff like that because it's a niche demographic that's notoriously hard to market to.
