In the Persian Empire, people would pour grape juice concentrate over snow - in a bowl - and eat this as a treat. In particular this was consumed when the weather was hot.

but wouldn't that be a snow cone?

Fu!, Apr 20, 2011, 10 pm

Yeah, I think "ice cream" would require the cream element. Snow cones aren't dairy, which I would think is the main component of ice cream.

Hmmm...Quite the conundrum, eh, gentlemen?

I remember hearing someone say that ice cream first came from China, so one of you less lazy readers should look into that. :3

I saw this like a hundred times on the History Channel. Modern Marvels or American Eats...
If I recall correctly, ice cream originated in Europe (I want to say Belgium) and that Thomas Jefferson brought it back to the states, but that it was significantly icier by todays standards.
Or that was french fries... It was definitely icier though...

Why was there snow if the weather was hot?

From what I remember reading, Imperial Britain made the first true ice cream, with the dairy component included.

RandomNinjaGuy, Apr 22, 2011, 08 am

Read this in a book once o0o
According to it several countries like Britain, France, Chine ect. ect. Made frozen treats similar to ice cream roughly around the same time

I thought Marco Polo discovered it in his travels in china... or so. Could be the falsest thing I ever said.

But it is true that the Chinese made frozen milk with rice and add other fruit juices. So maybe they are the first to make dairy ice cream?

I thought ice cream was invented by accident by a guy who was delivering cream on a cold winter day/night.

His truck broke down and the cream froze, so he sold it to people who passed by
