I know this one!!!

It was the Chinese, letting them establish a stable government (because paper money only works if you actually believed in its value and that value was enforced)and .... something about it being lightweight and usable for kindling. :D

Wow, history class WAS good for something....

I think the chinese government used paper money because they had a copper shortage.

At least that's what I learned, O_o

I think it's the chinese, but a man named Thaler invented the gold standard, by combining silver with definite worth with the currency. Over the years, it eventually was pronounced "Dollar".

Because some one was a lazy cheapskate and figured that painting picture on a peice of paper was easier than melting down metal to make coins.

The Chinese actually used paper that's essentially an I.O.U. They had banks back then and merchants and nobles at the time used them for big transactions. Because money at the time was heavy as fuck. As a side note, the Chinese also invented paper money for the dead that they burn so that the dead can use them in the afterlife.

What gets me is all the Android games that use "cash" and "coins" to mean two different things, when cash was obviously named after the sound it makes. :)
